Students Become Responsibly Engaged in the World

Ready to discover the world?

Through our far-reaching range of study abroad programs, you can barter for vegetables in a Tanzanian market, stand in the shadows of ancient Greek temples, witness the breathtaking Taj Mahal and meet fascinating new people. Concordia’s expert faculty will take you on a life-changing learning adventure that starts in the classroom and spans the globe.

Concordia students study abroad at a rate 25 times the national average. That’s because our Office of Global Education works hard to develop innovative and exciting opportunities that fully engage students with different cultures for a week, month, semester or entire academic year.

An Unforgettable Week

Exploration Seminars are spring break excursions to destinations like Egypt, Brazil, Norway and Japan. Each trip is the centerpiece of an on-campus course that lays the cultural and historical groundwork for a short but intense 10-day experience abroad.

The World in a Month

Developed and taught by experienced Concordia faculty, monthlong May Seminars are interdisciplinary, in-depth explorations of entire regions and cultures.

This May, you could study comparative French culture in Cameroon and Paris, or chart the history of apartheid in South Africa by visiting Amsterdam, London and Cape Town.

We’ve also organized several exciting month-long summer programs in France, Germany, Spain and Norway to immerse you completely in the language and culture of one city.

A Year That Will Change Your Life

An even better way to truly understand the complexity and depth of another culture is to live, study and work among its people for a semester or full academic year. Concordia has forged partnerships with institutions around the globe to design programs that go far beyond the average abroad experience. Here are just a few examples:
  • Social Justice, Peace and Development in India: This groundbreaking program blends classroom instruction with real-world contact. You’ll study the ethics of globalization and development, the interplay of religion, government and society, and the environmental impact of industrialization by visiting urban slums, medical facilities, wildlife reserves, factories and scenic rural areas.
  • People and the Environment in Central America: This interdisciplinary program based in Costa Rica will help you understand the complex issues of human development and ecological sustainability in Central America. You’ll take classes in urban and rural development, human development, environmental sustainability and Spanish.
  • Tanzania Exchange Program: Spend five months at the University of Dar Es Salaam through the Lutheran College Consortium for Tanzania, where you’ll learn Swahili, volunteer at local schools and churches, and visit some of Africa’s finest wildlife reserves, all while living and breathing the fascinating Tanzanian culture.
